A metal magnate from the Midlands has spent £500,000 on the latest cutting-edge laser equipment for his new firm.

John Stalker, managing director of Laser Cutting, sealed the deal to buy a new tube-cutting machine from BLM Adige at the Mach 2004 show at the NEC.

The tube-cutting machine can process round, square, rectangular and other shapes and is specifically designed for the subcontracting industry.

The new deal forms part of a £500,000 investment in new equipment and upgrading of the operations at Laser Cutting, which is based in Sheffield.

Mr Stalker said the new machine opens up new markets since it enables Laser Cutting to process aluminium as well as mild and stainless steel, and added it would help the company increase its near £2 million turnover by 40 per cent.
